The EU withdrawal button (German: Widerrufsbutton) comes from Directive (EU) 2023/2673, which added Article 11a to the EU Consumer Rights Directive. It has applied across the EU since 19 June 2026. If you sell to consumers in the EU through your site and your contracts carry a statutory right of withdrawal, shoppers must be able to withdraw as easily as they bought — no emailing you, no digging through your terms. What the law actually asks for A clearly labelled withdrawal function, easy to find, available throughout the entire withdrawal period — not just once at checkout A two-step flow: the shopper states their intention to withdraw, then confirms on a separate step An acknowledgement of receipt sent on a durable medium, typically email, confirming only that you received the request A note in your pre-contractual information telling shoppers the function exists and where to find it Why it's worth getting right Miss any of it and the 14-day cooling-off period can stretch to 12 months and 14 days per contract. Several member states add fines of up to 4% of annual turnover on top.
